Fourteen hours and 3 flights later, with virtually no sleep, we arrive in Pittsburgh, PA. We’re greeted at the airport by my Best Friend, JB. After some serious hugs all around, we head for the “burbs”, taking the scenic route through downtown Pittsburgh. We see the most important sights: Three Rivers Stadium (home of ‘da Steelers) and PNC Park (home of the Pirates).
Saturday is JB’s wedding to Deborah (Deb). It is this happy occasion that brought us to Pittsburgh. During our visit, JB has arranged for us to stay at Grandma Hildi’s condo. She lives in a nice, 3 bedroom condo just a few minutes from the site of the wedding: Deborah’s house. Hildi is a delightful, sweet German woman who simply can’t do enough to make us feel comfortable.
The preparations at Deborah’s home have been on-going for quite some time but, as always, there are LOTS of things to do at the last minute. Tina and I pitch in and things come together nicely. Saturday turns out to be a beautiful day and the event is a big success – great food, fun crowd, and entertainment that ranged from a string trio to a thumping DJ. Deborah's house is on a large lot, with lots of trees. Although it was challenging for the tent vendor, it was an incredible setting for the occasion.
Tina and I managed to wear some wax off the dance floor – something we hadn’t done in a while (and miss). It was a memorable occasion for all.
On Sunday, we went back over to Deb and JB’s house and we went out for brunch with JB’s father and sister (both had flown in from the Sacramento, CA area) and the newlyweds. The afternoon was spent back at Hildi’s, doing laundry and packing. Since we had a very early flight on Monday, we decided it was best to spend the night at Deb and JB’s to make it more efficient to get to the airport in the morning.
