For the last 2 days (Thurs & Fri) we’ve been in an orientation seminar about Costa Rica. There has been quite a parade of speakers, covering topics such as health care options, establishing residency, shipping goods to Costa Rica, real estate, cell phones and internet, dental care, taxes, culture, and much more. It was like drinking from a fire hose but it was excellent information – things it might otherwise have taken years to find out. No doubt it will help us save a lot of money and frustration. I think I took 15+ pages of notes. The seminar was put together by an organization called the Association of Residents of Costa Rica (ARCR). The ARCR is an organization of expatriates that helps foreigners moving to CR work their way through the maze of issues associated with that move. I’m sure they will be a valuable resource for us in the future.
Tomorrow we will be the first day of a 2-day bus tour to check out different areas (cities) of the Central Valley, to see which one(s) we, and the others on the tour, feel best fit what we’re looking for. We are looking forward to getting out of the city. It’s definitely NOT where we would want to stay.
